Prof. Bruno Sudret, Head of Risk, Safety, and Uncertainty Quantification at ETH Zürich, has won an extraordinarily prestigious Humboldt Research Award and will join the Institute for Risk and Reliability for collaborative research.
This collaboration will focus on developing innovative methods to analyse interconnected networks, particularly those supporting critical infrastructures. These efforts aim to pave the way for identifying cascading failure chains in complex systems associated with high risk levels. The objective is to recalibrate our understanding of network robustness and resilience, and to develop advanced modelling techniques, coupled with comprehensive risk and reliability analysis methods. By refining methodologies to capture the nuances and complexities inherent in these systems more accurately, this work seeks to preemptively identify, address, and mitigate potential points of failure.
Prof. Sudret will visit the Institute for Risk and Reliability for several research periods over the next three years
