From 20 to 28 June 2026, our institute will be part of IdeenExpo 2026 at the exhibition grounds in Hannover. As part of Leibniz University Hannover’s booth, visitors will have the opportunity to experience the interactive shaking table “Namazu” and learn how buildings respond to earthquakes.
IdeenExpo is Europe’s largest youth event for science and technology. Every two years, it brings research, engineering, and innovation to life through hands-on exhibits, experiments, and workshops. The event is open daily from 9:00 to 18:00, with additional live concerts in the evenings. Admission is free.
At our exhibit, “Shake it: Earthquake Simulator Namazu”, visitors can test how high-rise buildings behave during seismic excitation. Using the shaking table, they can explore how structural vibrations occur and how tuned liquid dampers can help reduce motion. The exhibit offers an accessible introduction to earthquake-resistant design and shows how civil and environmental engineering contribute to protecting society from natural hazards such as earthquakes, floods, and storm surges.
With Namazu, we aim to make structural dynamics tangible and encourage young people to discover the fascinating world of engineering. We look forward to welcoming many visitors at the Leibniz University Hannover booth during IdeenExpo 2026.
