Institute Members Honored at International Risk Management Conference

Shanghai, China – April 28, 2024 – The 4th International Conference on Vulnerability and Risk Analysis and Management (ICVRAM2024) and the 8th International Symposium on Uncertainty Modelling and Analysis (ISUMA2024) concluded yesterday in Shanghai, China, leaving a significant mark with its comprehensive discussions and presentations on risk and uncertainty in engineering and decision-making. Among the highlights was the recognition of two distinguished members from the Institute for their contributions to the field.

Vasileios C. Fragkoulis and Danko J. Jerez, former researchers from the Institute, were awarded certificates of appreciation for their invited talk on the "First-passage probability determination of hysteretic fractional oscillators under imprecise stationary Gaussian loads". This study, a collaboration with other notable experts including Pei-Hua Ni, Ioannis P. Mitseas, Marcos A. Valdebenito, Matthias G. R. Faes, and Michael Beer.

In a separate session, Andrea Perin took the stage to discuss his work on "Enhanced Bayesian network for reliability assessment with interval probability: application to salt domes as disposal sites for radioactive waste", co-authored with Matteo Broggi and Michael Beer. His presentation emphasized the use of Bayesian networks to improve the reliability assessments of geologically complex sites, which is important for the safe disposal of hazardous materials.
