Abstract

Reliability analysis of complex networks becomes increasingly important as our society relies more and more on the availability of systems that steadily become more interconnected. Recently, the concept of survival signature has attracted significant attention in reliability analysis of networks with multiple component types. It allows a computationally efficient analysis based on the separation of structural and probabilistic information. This paper presents a simulation method, based on the survival signature to calculate the reliability of networks subject to interdependencies and failures due to common causes and extreme events. Modeling the system failure in a modular way, such that it can be easily extended is a core concept of this work. Numerical examples resembling real world problems are presented to demonstrate the capabilities of this approach.
