Goal of the module

Students are guided through a range of fundamental methodological concepts of computational engineering to revise and to consolidate their knowledge and skills as a basis to succeed on the Master Programme “Computational Methods in Engineering”. Skills development is focussed not only on a deep and comprehensive understanding of the concepts, but in particular on active coding and application of the concepts in Matlab. Solution methods and code development will be developed for basic problems from different fields in engineering. In this manner, students will develop appreciation for numerical analyses and understand the significance of computational engineering for a wide range of practical engineering problems. Learning is facilitated and supported through the setup of the module as eLearning module for independent and individual learning. Students will be trained, in particular, on using and enhancing their programming skills. These skills will be needed in successive courses of the Master Programme “Computational Methods in Engineering”. Upon completion of the module students are supposed to be able to develop their own numerical solutions to fundamental problems across the subject areas of Solid Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Numerical Mathematics for Engineers, Probability Theory and Statistics for Engineers.
